Model

The Blue Sea Systems 285 Series Thermal Circuit Breaker is a heavy-duty, surface-mount DC circuit protector built for 48-volt marine and mobile power systems. Each breaker uses a Type III thermal element that is switchable and manual-reset, so it doubles as an on/off disconnect switch while protecting your wiring from overload and short-circuit conditions. A visible reset lever shows breaker status at a glance, and the trip-free design means the lever cannot be held closed by hand during a fault condition, keeping the circuit protected even under load. The 285 Series housing is ignition-protected to SAE J1171, making these breakers suitable for installation in enclosed engine spaces on gasoline-powered vessels as well as diesel and electric systems. Compact surface-mount dimensions make the 285 Series easy to panel-mount or bulkhead-mount in tight electrical enclosures, battery banks, inverter/charger installations, and DC distribution panels.

Sizes & Options

This line is available in two amperage ratings to match your circuit load: 50 amps (SKU BSS-7183) for medium-duty 48V DC circuits, and 150 amps (SKU BSS-7189) for higher-current 48V DC applications such as larger inverters, thruster circuits, or high-draw DC loads. Size the breaker to match your wire gauge and the continuous current draw of the protected circuit - undersized breakers will nuisance-trip, while oversized breakers will not adequately protect the wiring.
