For new, old, or dry wood, apply Cetol Natural Teak until it puddles on the surface, typically a minimum of 3 coats and sometimes more, applied within a two week period. A minimum of 4 coats is advised for old or dry wood. Sanding between coats is not necessary, but for a smoother surface, sand lightly between coats with a sanding pad. Use a long-haired natural bristle brush and do not use a foam brush. If the finish has been used before, an annual maintenance coat is recommended: clean the surface, rinse with fresh water and allow to dry, roughen with a sanding pad, clean, and apply 1 or 2 coats. For a high gloss exterior, follow with a minimum of 2 coats of Cetol Marine Gloss, sanding lightly between coats with 220-320 grit sandpaper.
