Marine-Tex Gluvit Waterproof Epoxy Sealer, 2 lb Quart Kit, Amber
Marine-Tex Gluvit Waterproof Epoxy Sealer is a two-part epoxy barrier coat formulated to protect and repair hulls, decks, and structural wood on boats. It is designed for fiberglass, wood, aluminum, and steel, bridging and sealing hairline cracks, pinholes, and leaky seams while forming a protective barrier against water absorption and corrosion. On aluminum hulls it seals rivets and leaks around cabins or decks, and it can be applied to the outside of an aluminum gas tank as a corrosion barrier (it is not resistant to gasoline and should not be used to coat the inside of a fuel tank). Deteriorated wood on decks and hulls can be renewed as Gluvit penetrates into the material to add strength.
This 2 lb quart-size kit is a 1:1 by-can, 5-parts-resin-to-1-part-hardener (by volume) epoxy system. Once mixed, it offers about 60 minutes of working time at 72 degrees Fahrenheit and is applied by brush or roller at 6-8 mils film thickness. The first coat cures in 12 hours at 72 degrees Fahrenheit, after which a second coat can be applied; full hardening occurs overnight, with 48 hours at 72 degrees Fahrenheit needed to reach maximum strength. Because Gluvit is not UV stable, it must be top-coated with a pigmented epoxy, urethane, latex, or alkyd paint after curing for lasting protection. The kit is amber in color and the resin container is intentionally slack-filled to leave room for thorough power mixing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Marine-Tex Gluvit used for? Gluvit Waterproof Epoxy Sealer (RM330K) is a two-part epoxy barrier coat used to seal and protect boat hulls and decks made of fiberglass, wood, aluminum, or steel, bridging hairline cracks and filling minor pinholes and leaky seams.
How much surface area does the 2 lb kit cover? This 2 lb quart-size kit of Gluvit covers approximately 25-35 square feet.
What is the mix ratio for Gluvit epoxy? Gluvit is mixed at a ratio of 5 parts resin to 1 part hardener by volume, with the full kit contents combined and mixed thoroughly for 3-4 minutes if using the entire kit at once.
How long does Gluvit take to cure? At 72 degrees Fahrenheit, Gluvit's first coat cures in about 12 hours, hardens overnight, and reaches maximum strength after 48 hours; full cure of the barrier coat itself takes 24-30 hours at that temperature.
How long is the working time once Gluvit is mixed? Once the resin and hardener are combined, Gluvit RM330K offers about 60 minutes of working time (pot life) at 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
Does Gluvit need to be painted after it cures? Yes, Gluvit should be top-coated with a pigmented epoxy, urethane, latex, or alkyd-based marine paint after curing, since UV exposure will otherwise cause the epoxy to chalk and potentially crack over time.
Can Gluvit be used to coat the inside of a fuel tank? No, Gluvit is not resistant to gasoline and should not be used inside a gas tank; it can, however, be applied to the outside of an aluminum gas tank as a corrosion barrier.
What materials can Gluvit be applied to? Gluvit RM330K bonds to fiberglass, wood, aluminum, and steel, making it suitable for sealing hulls, decks, seams, and rivets across most common boatbuilding materials.
Why is the resin container only partially full? The resin can for Gluvit RM330K is intentionally slack-filled because materials are packaged by weight, leaving room for a power mixer to fully blend the resin and hardener in one container.
Can Gluvit be tinted with pigment? Yes, an epoxy-friendly pigment can be added to Gluvit, up to a maximum of 5 percent of the total epoxy volume; this will tint the amber epoxy but will not achieve a dark color.
How thick should Gluvit be applied? Gluvit RM330K is applied with a brush or roller at a film thickness of 6-8 mils per coat.
Can Gluvit be applied at low temperatures? If ambient temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the Gluvit product and work area should be pre-conditioned to at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit before application, since working time and cure both lengthen in cooler conditions.
