The Sea-Dog Heavy Duty Thimble is a stamped 304 stainless steel fitting designed to protect eye splices in wire rope or line from crushing and chafe. Set inside the loop of a splice before it is seized or swaged, the thimble spreads the load evenly around a shackle, pin, or hook, keeping the eye round under tension and preventing the strands from being pinched flat. This reduces wear at the point of highest stress in any rigging run, extending the working life of the splice and the hardware it connects to.
